Johnny Engel

October 26, 1952 ~ May 2, 2019

Johnny Engel, 66, of Sulphur passed away on May 2, 2019 after a brief illness. Johnny worked with his work family, Mike Hooks, LLC, as a heavy equipment operator and manager for 47 years. He loved watching his grandchildren rodeo, cooking, fishing, gardening, and watching football. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Kathy Engel of Sulphur; two children, Katrina Ellender and husband Joe of Carlyss and Jett Engel and wife Kelli of Sulphur; mother-in-law, Ruby Lyons, 6 grandchildren, Matthew, Garrett, Grant, Kathryn, Cade, and Sonny; 2 great grandchildren, Marsh and Harbor; 2 siblings, Rosemary Sarich and husband Don and Alice Fontenot and husband Danny; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Thelma Engel; sister, Maria Cooksey; father-in-law, and special friend, Rayford Lyons.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 2 P.M. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur with Father Edward Richard, M.S. officiating. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 5, 2019 from 4-9 P.M. with a rosary at 6 P.M. at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Monday, May 6 at 9 A.M. at the funeral home until time of leaving for the church. Pallbearers will be Jett Engel, Grant Engel, Matthew Brown Ellender, Garrett Brown Ellender, Cade Brown, Dusty Olsen, David Ray Lyons, John Johnston, and honorary, Mike Olsen.
