Joseph "Cleo" Rougeau

June 29, 1931 ~ May 15, 2017

Vinton - Cleo Rougeau passed peacefully on May 15, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He lived a long life filled with family and wonderfully shared experiences.  He was a devoted husband and father of 65 years.  In his final years, and perhaps it could even be considered as his legacy, he showed us a new dimension and depth to the human spirit.  He redefined the meaning of human compassion, proving a rock of unimaginable strength, endurance and gentleness in the loving care of his wife, Laskie Manual Rougeau, who passed only four months ago.

Cleo loved being surrounded by and bringing family together. Cleo was passionate about nearly anything to do with being outdoors - farming, piloting, skiing, off-shore fishing, bay-shore fishing, fly-fishing, hunting, hiking, cycling, mountain biking and tinkering under the barn repairing everything from boats, to vehicles, to tractors.  He shown his light in many places and on multitudes of people.  He mentored his children and grandchildren regarding financial planning and education.  He and Laskie loved to explore, often traveling with friends and family.  They were passionate about sharing these experiences with their children and grandchildren. Being married to a teacher and librarian, naturally, Cleo also loved to read. Cleo was also an involved member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Lovingly known as Pappy he joins his wife, Laskie Manual Rougeau, his parents Gladau Rougeau and Sadie Young Rougeau and brother, Glenn Rougeau, in peace. He is survived by a brother, Rodney Rougeau and wife Dolores, a sister, Jeanne Rougeau Talbot and husband Lionel, and his loving children: Douglas Rougeau and wife Genie, Rhonda Rougeau and Rachelle Rougeau Trahan and husband Michael; his grandchildren: Alexis Dennis Comeaux and husband Wade, Abel Dennis and wife Courtney, Kristin Rougeau, Drew Rougeau, Lauren Trahan and Shelby Trahan; and his great grandchildren: Tye Dennis and Bryka Dennis.

Funeral ceremony will take place at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1502 Industrial Street in Vinton on Friday, May 19, 2017. Rosary will begin at 9:00AM and Mass will commence at 10:00AM. Burial to follow: Mimosa Pines Garden of Memories in Carlyss.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations made to the Alzheimer's Association www.alz.org.

The family would like to give special thanks to Cleo’s caregivers: Leslie Richard, Bridgett Richard, Venus Vassar, Ella Deveaux, Lakaisha Richard and Dr. Arthur Primeaux.
