Maudrey Ann Gaspard

January 10, 1949 ~ August 19, 2021

Maudrey Gaspard was reunited with her parents in heaven on Wednesday, August 19, 2021, due to complications from COVID-19.  She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was widely known for her infectious smile, extraordinary kindness and intense love for family.  Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren. It was a memorable occasion when they were able to spend the night with “Manaw” and they always looked forward to their morning “coffee milk” with her.  She did everything in her power to make sure they felt the love she had for them. She was very proud of her 6 children and looked forward to celebrating their successes which were a direct result of the surmounted strength and unprecedented work ethic she demonstrated for them over the years. Family get-togethers were always a joyous celebration filled with love.

Maudrey loved life and was blessed with many experiences but was especially fond of spending time with her brothers and sister during their many road trips and weekends at Holly Beach. She had an astonishing green thumb and enjoyed working in her garden.

To Maudrey, everyone in her life was family and she treated them as if they were.  Her work family was very dear to her and she often shared stories of the fun they had together while working. Always going above and beyond for people to make sure every detail was perfect during the events she was in charge of managing, she made sure special occasions were just that...special.

Most impactful to the community was her servant's heart.  She served on the board for the West Calcasieu Chamber of Commerce and events committee for over ten years; was the former president of the Westlake Rotary Club and longtime Rotarian.  She was a member of Christian Life Church of Sulphur, and her church family was very special to her.

Maudrey spent many years taking care of children while operating her own daycare. After returning from the Isle of Capris as an event coordinator, she managed events for the West Calcasieu Event Center.

Left to cherish her memory are her six children, Brian Gaspard of DeQuincy, Robert Gaspard and wife Jennifer of Iowa, Chrystal Gaspard Matthews and fiancé Brian Gibson of Gonzales, Greg Gaspard and fiancé Nancy Waits of Sulphur, Blake Gaspard and wife Kashia of Sulphur, and Regina Gaspard Vincent and husband Spencer of Ragley; twenty-one grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She will also be greatly missed by her six siblings, Enson Saltzman, Lawrence Saltsman, Nelson Saltzman, Jr. Neelis Saltzman, Larry Saltzman, and Kathleen Saltzman Koch, all of Kaplan: and her “forever daughter-in-law”, Shelly Gaspard of DeQuincy.

Maudrey was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Lennie Saltzman of Kaplan

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made via paypal at and Venmo @blake-gaspard-1.  Donations will be made in Maudrey’s name to various charities she supported, including the American Diabetes Association as she often prayed for a cure for her granddaughter’s Type 1 Diabetes.

A Celebration of Life service will be at 6pm, Monday, August 24, 2021, in Johnson and Robison Funeral Home of Sulphur. Rev. Marcus Wade will officiate. A gathering of friends and family will be 2 – 5pm, Sunday and resume at 4pm Monday until time of service.

  1. I considered Maudrey a dear friend. She set with my aunt, Patsy Billedeaux for over a year before her passing in 2020 and we all loved Maudrey. She always brought joy to us with her always happy, loving attitude. I'm so sorry for your loss. Sincerely Carolyn

  2. There was never a dull moment with this amazing lady. This picture is from the ice storm at work. We didn't have to come in but we all came in to help and there was no running water so she was melting ice for the toilets lol! She will forever be in my heart and forever missed!

  6. I only knew Maudry for a short time, but she made a big impact on mine and my family's lives. She came to sit with my mother in the weeks leading up to Mom's death. She was so kind and caring, staying all night with me when mom wasn't expected to make it through the night, so I wouldn't be alone. She was very warm and funny and so good with Mom. I am so saddened to hear of her passing. My condolences go out to all of her loved ones. May she rest in eternal peace.

  7. Our deepest sympathy to Maudrey’s family at this time of loss.  At the Chamber SWLA , we worked with her for many events at the Isle of Capri.  She was always very nice and handled everything very smoothly.  She was a pro and did the same at the West Cal Events Center.  She will be missed.  Your family is in our prayers.
